What a family session at Sandymount beach feels like
Sandymount is one of my favourite locations for a family session in Dublin, especially in summer. The salty breeze, the long stretch of beach, the nearby ice cream parlour where kids pick their favourite flavours… it’s a classic family moment waiting to happen.
During a typical session here, we might start by the ice cream stand, capturing the excitement of choosing toppings and licking melting cones. Then we make our way onto the sand, shoes off, exploring puddles and laughing together. If the tide allows, we can even walk over to the small island where wild grasses and perfect seashells create a magical, poetic setting.
I always adapt the flow of the session to your children’s energy. Some run wild, others want cuddles, and all of it is perfect.

My sessions are child-led and pressure-free. That means no “say cheese”, no awkward posing, and absolutely no need for your kids to behave “perfectly”. I believe kids are at their best when they’re simply allowed to be themselves, whether that means jumping in puddles or getting their dress covered in sand. Messy play helps them learn!

What should we wear for a beach photo shoot?
Keep it simple and comfortable. Light, neutral or earthy tones work beautifully against the beach backdrop. Avoid logos or very busy patterns. And don’t worry if the kids get sandy or wet — that’s part of the charm! I’m happy to help you choose outfits that feel like “you” and look great in photos.
What if the weather is bad?
Irish weather is full of surprises! If the rain is heavy or the wind too strong, we’ll reschedule at no extra cost. But often, even on grey days, the beach has its own kind of magic — and some of my favourite photos were taken in moody light or just after the rain.
