ABOUT ME

Before we meet

Let me tell you a little about me

photographie de famille : trois enfants rentrent de la plage

Bonjour, I’m Aurélie! Dreamer, and mama to three wonderful little peanuts

I’ve been photographing my family for more than 16 years, and chose to be a family photographer 5 years ago. When I became a mother, I received a very special lens for my camera: the lens of love, the one that lets you see how precious, how incredible your life as a parent is.

From the very beginning, I realized I wanted to keep everything somewhere safe in my memories. Yes, even explosive diapers and the first spaghetti in their hair! You can read more about why I chose to become a documentary family photographer.

Whenever I walk around in my home, surrounded by all the photographs hanging in their rooms, in mine, in the hallway, on the front door, and in the living room, I am content. Our family photos are like little lighthouses on the often stormy ocean of life. They remind us of how much we love each other and the joy of being together.

I take photos of my family very often. Pretty much everytime we go out, I bring my camera. Here are some pictures from one of the last time we went out before moving to Dublin. It was during the Olympics and we had a blast! So grateful we have these memories.

“I have way too many beautiful photos of my kids’ childhood” said no parent ever.

FUN FACTS ABOUT ME

  • I am French and before coming to Dublin, I lived in Paris (oui oui).
  • I fall asleep to rain sounds on my phone app, so Ireland was pretty obvious when I chose to move.
  • I love Ghibli movies. I watch them again and again with my kids. My favorite is Totoro.
  • I love chocolate so much and all my kids hate it, can you believe someone would hate chocolate?
  • I like vintage grandma plates, the smell of cinnamon and almond extract, candles, pillows (so many pillows), family diners, and peeking in the doorway of my kids’ room after they fall asleep (you know, when they look like little angels).
  • I studied archeology and had never used a camera before I was about 30. Photography was instant love then, though.
  • I’m always ahead on my to-do list. Oh come on I’m kidding. Yeah there’s a load of wet laundry in the washing machine that I forgot to put in the dryer and will eventually have to wash again.

Childhood photographs are everything.

This is me! I am so happy I have some photo albums from when I was a kid.
I can look at them and remember.
I can sit and enjoy the vintage photos with my own kids. Not only can I tell them how much they look like me when I was a child, I can also show them.

Our kids will want to know what they looked like, what they used to do. They will want to show their family and share memories.

Photographs are legacy, they are so valuable because they can make you go back in time.
That’s magic.

I already told you how I love to watch Ghibli movies. But they also inspire my photography because I share their passion for creating a feel-good atmosphere. Just like their movies celebrate the beauty in everyday moments and emotions, I aim to capture the same warmth and poetry in my work.

Hayao Miyazaki once said :  “I would like to make a film to tell children it’s good to be alive”.
This resonates deeply with me, as my own aim is to create photographs for families that carry the same uplifting message.
