Why Autumn might be the perfect time for your family photo session in Dublin
Autumn family photo session in Dublin: the phrase alone brings to mind golden light, crunchy leaves under their tiny shoes, warm jumpers and slower afternoons. And did I hear hot chocolate?
As a family photographer with over 17 years of photography experience, I’ve learned to love every season for its unique atmosphere. But autumn has something special. It’s a time when families start to settle back into a rhythm after the summer chaos. There’s a stillness in the air, a softness in the light… And a sense that this is a season to savour.
This article isn’t here to convince you that autumn is the only time to book your family session, but it might just be the perfect one for you and your loved ones.

🍂 The light is golden and flattering
Let’s start with the obvious: autumn light is magical.
The sun sits lower in the sky, giving us those soft, glowing tones that photographers dream of. The golden hour, that dreamy time just before sunset, happens earlier in the evening, which means it’s perfect for young children who are still up and happy.
When we’re outside in a park or in your own garden, the light wraps around you in the gentlest way. It’s ideal for natural, unposed photography, where the bond between you and your children shines bright.

⏳ Life slows down after summer
After the full-speed freedom of summer, autumn brings a kind of calm. School and work start again, routines return, and weekends start to feel like cosy little pockets of family time.
That makes it a perfect moment for a documentary session, the kind where I simply join your family for a morning or afternoon and quietly photograph the beautiful ordinary. With no pressure, no perfectly matching outfits, and no need to tidy the house.
Just real life, just as you are, which is always more than enough.

🎁 It’s the perfect timing for holiday gifts
A family photo session in early autumn means you’ll have your gallery ready well before the holiday rush. That gives you time to choose your favourites and surprise the grandparents with a framed print or photo album. It will mean so much more to them than anything store-bought!
If you’re like me, you always mean to plan ahead for the holiday season and Christmas, but it sneaks up fast. Booking a session now is a simple way to give your future self a lovely head start.

🏞️ Autumn in Dublin is simply beautiful
We’re lucky here in Dublin.
Places like Phoenix Park, Farmleigh, or even your local canal path turn into scenes of gold and rust and quiet wonder in the autumn months. The grass is still green, the skies not yet grey for good, and the air is crisp enough to wear your favourite knit without freezing.
If the weather shifts (this is Ireland, after all), we can always mix indoor and outdoor time. Some of my favourite sessions start with baking or playing indoors, and end with leaves and wellies and little hands collecting cute rocks.
An autumn family photo session in Dublin lets us embrace the season without the pressure of perfection: that’s the beauty of documentary!

🌸 And if autumn isn’t your thing…
That’s okay too.
I honestly believe there’s beauty to be found in every season.
- Winter is quiet, cosy, full of warmth and indoor cuddles.
- Spring brings energy, light, and that fresh-start feeling.
- Summer is playful, carefree and colourful, and bursting with movement.
No matter the season, I’ll gently guide you and your children through a session that reflects who you are and how you love each other, mess and all.
