Planning a surprise proposal in Dublin

Planning a proposal is exciting, but it can also feel a little overwhelming.
You want it to be meaningful, natural, and truly memorable… without turning it into something staged or stressful. You might be wondering how to choose the right moment, or how to avoid raising suspicion.
As a Dublin proposal photographer, I specialise in discreet, documentary photography that lets the moment unfold exactly as it should: real, emotional, and completely yours.

The truth is, you don’t need a complicated plan.

Together, we’ll create something simple and wonderful, a moment that fits your relationship and feels completely natural. I’ll guide you through location, timing, and small details, so everything flows smoothly without stress.

A discreet approach that feels completely natural

A common concern is: what if she notices the photographer?

My approach is very low-key and designed to blend in seamlessly. Most of the time, I simply look like a tourist — which, with my French accent, is very effective!

During a recent proposal in Howth, I was there with my camera, blending in as a tourist photographing the cliffs. As they walked past me, he approached and asked if I could take a photo of them with his phone. I happily agreed.
After taking a couple of photos, I suggested using my own camera instead and offered to send them a nicer version afterwards.
They said yes, and as I was photographing them, I said the code word he and I had agreed on beforehand.

That’s when he got down on one knee.
She had no idea it was coming.

That’s the kind of experience I aim to create: natural, effortless, and truly surprising.

How your proposal session unfolds

Every proposal is different, but the approach is always simple.

We plan a natural scenario together in advance, something that fits the location and feels right for you. No awkward staging, no complicated setup.

On the day, I arrive early and blend into the environment. When you arrive, everything unfolds naturally.

I document the moment quietly, without interfering.

And once the surprise is revealed, I come and introduce myself so we can continue with a relaxed, natural couple session, capturing the joy, the laughter, and everything that follows.

Not sure how to plan it? I’ll guide you

You don’t need to have everything figured out.

Most couples I work with have never planned a proposal before, and that’s completely normal.

I’ll help you think through the timing, the setting, and the flow of the moment, so you can feel confident going into it.

Sometimes, even small details can make a difference. In one proposal, her family was secretly involved and encouraged her to get her nails done beforehand! Something she was very glad about afterwards.

It’s these little touches that help make the moment feel just right.

After the “yes”: capturing what comes next

Right after the proposal, emotions are high: surprise, joy, laughter…

That’s when we take advantage of the moment and continue with a sweet, relaxed couple session.

Nothing posed or awkward. Just the two of you, enjoying being newly engaged, walking together, talking, laughing.

These often become some of the most natural and meaningful images of the day.

Will it feel natural? Yes! And that’s the whole point

You don’t need to perform. You don’t need to follow a complicated script. The goal is not to create a perfect scene, but a real moment, one that reflects your relationship as it is.

Most couples tell me afterwards that it felt easy, relaxed, and completely natural. And that’s exactly how it should be! You want to focus on this very important moment of your life, not worry about pictures.
