Dublin family photoshoot
Following your family’s journey through the years
Many of the families I photograph ask me to capture them as the years go by, and I get to meet them often as they want to update their photo albums. I feel so grateful to be able to witness their kids grow up!
This mama wanted a documentary session of this incredible season of her family’s life: they just moved into a new home a couple of months ago and had a new baby. With a baby and a toddler at home, her daily life can be quite overwhelming (if this is you right now, I feel you, been there myself), so my job was to make her feel relaxed on top of giving her beautiful keepsakes.
She wanted cute, real moments and to be included in the pictures (yes, selfies are fine, but a mama also deserves great, non blurry photos of herself!).
Daily routines and the importance of documenting life as it is
Sessions with newborns are best held at home, especially in the winter, so this is where we met that morning. Mama and Papa asked me what they should do and I said “do what you usually do, that’ll be perfect”. Baby was asleep in Mama’s arms and his big brother showed me his toys. We chatted about short nights and the little joys of parenting. You know, the joys that make it all incredibly worth it even through the hardships. We move around the house as the family goes about a normal day: a puzzle and a coffee at the kitchen table, cuddles and a story on the sofa and shenanigans with Daddy.
This is your life, everyday: it deserves beautiful keepsakes and you will be grateful you chose to document it exactly as it is.
A real-life documentary that feels like you
Reportage sessions are all about storytelling. It’s important that looking at your photos gets you all fuzzy and warm, saying “this is us!”
A real-life documentary should feel like it’s yours and yours alone. It’s all about capturing the genuine moments that happen naturally so you don’t get the same photos everyone else is getting! It’s not about following trends or checking boxes—it’s about the honest moments that make your family unique.
Parenthood is very real, your photos should be too.
The perfect length for a family photoshoot
Classic family sessions last one and a half hours (for day in the life sessions, check here!) Through experience, I’ve found this to be the perfect amount of time—not too long for the little impatient ones, but just enough to really take our time. Time is precious. As parents, it always feels like time flies by. Sometimes, we wish we could go back, even just for a moment, to see their messy curls again, or hear their first laugh once more. Every small gesture is meaningful, and each passing minute makes them grow. So I take my time. I observe and capture, while you comfort your child, change a diaper, or hand them a biscuit to keep them full until mealtime.
Life is good, live it at your own pace. Your heart and your album will be filled with the best memories.
