One last family session before moving to a new home

Saying goodbye to a home is never easy, especially when it holds so many cherished memories. For this lovely family, their time in their first home was coming to an end as they prepared to move to a bigger space, a new chapter for them and their one year old baby girl. Before the boxes were packed and the keys handed over, we spent a quiet, meaningful afternoon capturing their last moments here. They came into this home as a couple and left as a family of three, and they will be leaving many memories behind, so a last documentary family session before moving to a new home was in order.

As I’m writing this, I’m in the middle of a move myself, and I know how dear photos of the home where your children grew up are, once you no longer live there.

The first home for their baby girl

From the very first moment, it was clear that this home was more than just a place; it was the foundation of their family life. Even with boxes packed up in every room, I could feel it held many happy memories. It was a wonderful, sunny afternoon, and Mama and Papa greeted me warmly, introducing me to their adorable baby girl.

The session started with the family doing what they love most: spending quality time together. They played on the living room floor, read a favorite storybook, and enjoyed their last few days in this space. Even amidst the upcoming move, they took the time to pause, connect, and be fully present with one another.

Everyday small details, forever cherished

One of the most beautiful parts of photographing families is capturing the small, seemingly ordinary details. The baby’s tiny hands gripping mom’s arms, the way she snuggled into her lap during storytime, and dad’s reassuring smile as he held her high in the air—these are the moments that matter.

As they prepared for their move, these everyday details would soon become treasured memories of the life they built in this house. The place may have become too small for them as the family grew, but as tiny and imperfect a home can be, when it’s your baby’s first haven, it will forever be special.

Looking ahead for what the future holds

The session started in their living room, a space where they had spent countless hours as a family. It was a special moment, knowing that this would be their last time here, but also feeling the excitement of what’s to come: a new home with more room to grow, more space for parties and playtime, and the promise of new adventures.

For this family, this session wasn’t just about photographs; it was about preserving a piece of their history. A reminder of the love and joy that filled their first home.

Why a last family session before moving is important

You most likely have very fond, but blurry memories of your childhood home. If you still have access to that place, count yourself very lucky! Most adults today have been moving quite a bit. Studies have shown people in Europe move around 4 to 5 times in there life. I myself have had more than 15 moves in my life!

I would give a lot to see my childhood homes one more time. Sadly, I don’t have many pictures of the homes from when I was small, and don’t remember much either, but I would LOVE to!

If you’re about to move or embark on a new chapter in your life, consider booking a session to capture the moments before everything changes. Life moves fast, but photographs let you hold onto these memories forever, and your kids will be so grateful.
