5 common misconceptions about family sessions

Most Common misconceptions about family photos

There are several common misconceptions about photography sessions, and they are quite persistent. People often picture themselves snug in formal attire, neatly lined up on a greyish background, awkward smiles and all. Today, I’m addressing some of those myths about family photography, and you’ll be delighted to hear there are, indeed, other options.

1 – “We’ll have to buy outfits just for the occasion.”

If you really want to, then by all means go ahead, but it’s not necessary at all. It’s best to wear your everyday outfits. Here is a guide with a few tips on how to dress for a photo session.

2 – “My home is too small and not nice enough.”

It’s your home! And your kids love it; they’ll have fond and nostalgic memories of it. It’s the place where they grow up and feel loved—your home deserves to be remembered!

3 – “I don’t look good in photos.”

I promise you that’s not a thing! What makes people look awkward in photos is unnatural, stiff posing. With a family documentary photo session, it won’t happen, and you’ll all look amazing.

4 – “I already take photos with my phone, I don’t really need a professional photo session.”

So do I! I use my phone to snap pictures quite often too because I have it handy. But during a professional family photoshoot, you don’t have to worry about doing anything, I take care of it. You get to live in the moment, enjoy your kids, and the best part is that you’ll be in the shot with your children. They’ll treasure these invaluable images when they’re older.

5 – “Now’s not the best time…”

I’ll let you on a little secret : there is no best time. Anytime is worth capturing, any season you’re in. That front baby tooth that just fell out, the kitchen renovations, the challenges of breastfeeding, the dark circles under your eyes… that’s LIFE, it’s beautiful! Life will always have its ups and downs, and in 20 years time, you’ll be glad you captured this amazing whirlwind.
